here are some pictures of the motorized pedal car I am working on. I tried to give up pedalling when I learned how to weld. I have alot of other irons in the fire, so it will be awhile before it is done. I got my inspirations from the coaster wagons. I figure this way the motor will be covered up. I have a 3.5 HP briggs to put on it. I am not looking for alot of speed, just want to be different. Obviously, this is just a quick mock up, but you get the idea. I am just making it up as I go along. Maybe I'll just put a handle on the front, and pull my daughter arond in it for awhile.

Wayfat,

It already looks cool and you just started on it. Are you going to put a nice set of wheelie bars on the back?

I look forward to seeing your finished ride... Great Idea!

what is the measurements of your pedal car body?

wayfat
April 21st, 2006, 11:36 PM
Woodknack,
the pedal car body is 34 inches long, 14 inches wide in the front, and 13 inches wide in the back. I made a wooden box that goes where the seat is, so I will actually sit just above the car body. It will pop right out, so when I'm not driving it, it will look like a regular body. I'm not a big guy, but my ass won't fit in there. I will have foot pegs on the outside. They will probably fold out to give a cleaner look when not being driven. I wanted to extend the front wheels out in front like the wagons, but thought it would look better to keep them back by the wheel openings. It has a long way to go and I probably won't work on it till next winter.
Are you thinking of building one?

ya im thinking of building one. thats if I can get a donar pedal car. I have bought a new 6.5 hp honda clone off ebay awhile back and am looking for a good winter project too!

I got my pedal car of of ebay. I found someone selling just the body so I didn't cut up the whole pedal car. I think some of those can be worth some $$$, so I didn't want to hack up the whole thing. I think I paid about 30 bucks for it . be sure and let me know if you do one. I'd like to see how it turns out.

Thanks for your interest. Unfortunately, with the house and family, this project is gonna be on hold for awhile. If there is any progress, I will be sure to post. I still kick it around in my head but can't get the time to work on it. Now i will be thinking about it even more.

I am sorry to say there are no updates. I tore the furnace out of my garage last summer when we shingled( i know, that was dumb) and it's too damn cold to be out there. I have a garage organization project in the works, which means the place is a disaster.
The good news is, I started on my basement bar last weekend. I am going with an old gas station theme, so when i can't drink a beer in the garage, at least i can feel like i am in one. I plan to post some pics of that when it comes along a little farther.
Thanks for the interest, sorry to dissapoint,

Geez, winter leaves and my head is poppin with ideas. I want to build a mini Willy's gasser. I want another barstool racer. I have to finish my scooter.... Maybe I can get everything in motion before I have to cut the grass every 3 days. I'm tellin' ya, if it aint one thing, it's twohttp://barflyracers.com/images/icons/dizzy.gif

Geez, looks great. You're on a roll now! The stance from the side looks very cool. Where do the coil-overs come from? I just saw a fire engine exactly like yours at the Chicagoland juke box/slot machine show yesterday for $350. All you could do with that one is look at it. Yours makes me grin.

Mr. Penguin
It's good to make someone grin. I got all of the shocks from ebay. the rears are from a mini bike, and the fronts are from a mountain bike. they mount one in the center of the frame, under the seat. search for "bicycle shock" if you are interested. I have a low rider coaster wagon i am building, and i put a set on the rear. They look pretty cool. i have black and red ones. not sure if they come in other colors.

Bored? Hardly! I'm inspired. How much would you charge to come over and clean my garage just like yours?

wayfat
April 25th, 2009, 11:24 AM
the cleanliness of the garage is very deceiving. the other stall is so full of stuff, there is barely room to move. maybe i'll post a pic of that.

WayFat, I have a couple questions. Where will you put a seat and your feet? With those big ass tires its hard to tell where to put your feet.

Chris

wayfat
April 25th, 2009, 10:59 PM
here are some random close ups. if you have any ???'s let me know. I've never built suspesion before, but i bounced on the front end, and it hardly moved, so i am not too worried about the whole design. the shocks are pretty much cosmetic and fill up the space in the front a little (oh, i think it looks pretty cool, too). as you can see i built a box to sit in the area of the seat so i sit on top of the body. the foot pegs will probably be about where my feet are resting. I haven't planned that out yet for sure. I am slightly vertically challenged but it is still a little tight.

Looks great Wayfat. Handle bars or wheel? Did you build in any caster? Keep up the good work and take lots more pictures.

wayfat
April 27th, 2009, 03:14 PM
The shocks all came from ebay. the rears are for a mini bike-not sure about the weight of the springs. the fronts are for a mountain bike-one on a bike mounted by the seat post- the shocks say 750 lbs on them. I would have to hit a helluva bump before they are much good. Hopefully that won't happen.
I am watching ebay for a (cheap)pedal car steering wheel, no luck yet. I didn't build in any caster. I am going to make it a single wheel drive, so it should be easy enough to steer.
Haven't figured out what to do for throttle yet. On the steering wheel would be nice. I am sure it will have Fred Flintstone brakes for awhile. Ah who am I kidding, probably forever.
Thanks for the interest.

Hey Wayfat, looks like your chassis lends itself to a wagon too...geez, that would be a nice design if it's even close. Does your daughter have one you can "borrow" to check the fit?

well, i was thinking an original pedal car steering wheel, but found this. How do you guys think this would look? It is 8.5 inches wide with a 4.5 inch dish. it's only like an inch wider than a pedal car one, and it would stick away from the boby and be easier to reach. I was afraid it would be too much, but maybe it's too late to worry about that.
Thoughts??

Do it. Those are the same wheels that came on Atari video games (I oughta know) I have one mounted in my bumper car. If you dont have a hub for it I can look to see if I still have one. It would look cool as heck in my opinion.

Snakester, thanks for the compliments. I was thinking i would leave it red cuz i can still buy the original decals online, so i could leave it somewhat original.
i need to figure out a throttle, but otherwise i think i have everything. hopefully i can get it all together and run it soon. i would still like to make it single wheel drive, since it has a pretty small motor (3.5 hp), but can try it the way it is first.
thanks again everyone for the kind words.

Ha! Who knew? So are you going to mount the throttle to one of the pegs? How about a motorcycle twist grip throttle that you roll with your foot? Ever seen the hydrostatic tractor foot controls that have a heel pad and a toe pad and rock from the middle?

well, i got it all together and took it for a spin. I wouldn't think of taking it near as fast as my bsr, but it was fun. it would be a good parade car. the front end is light because my ass is actually behind the rear axle. i got the seat back the other day ($50) and it turned out better than i imagined. I rigged up my pipe tonite a ran it down the alley. i was going to pull it into a car show with my barstool for display on Sunday, but now i can drive it. can't wait to see peoples expressions.
it still needs paint, but thanks for all the kind words and interest you guys showed in this project.
