Good question... I have one solution that may work..
On a TAV2 they have a sleeve that goes over the end of the crankshaft that may work if the taper is not to severe on the shaft.
Where about does the taper start? It is all the way from the start of the exposed shaft or half way? It has been many years since I have worked on a tapered shaft.
You may also be able to have someone fab you a sleeve to straighten the taper on the shaft and you could slip it on the end.

Hear is another option for ya. I posted a pic a Real Racing Clutch cost 200.00 but this little beast will get you going faster then the average barstool you can also do some Bitching Burn Out with it and yes Beer on the tires makes for a nice thick white smoke. Combind this clutch and a Briggs Animal or Raptor 3 motor and thers no way you will be the last one to Happy Hour:cheers:

Tharaw,
I do not believe they make any clutches that have a tapered shaft. Usually the tapered shaft motors have some sort of hub or pulley attached and that is the reason for the taper.
I do think you may be able to get away with the shaft extender the TAV2 has. Might want to call Comet and ask them before hand so you do not grenade the TAV.

Just for your info tharaw,
the tapered shaft briggs are made simply for generators applications. IM sure you have figured out this problem by now but its good info to know. Briggs and stratton does make straight 3/4-3/16 keyed shaft cranks that will replace that if you havent fixed the prob yet. Price new is about 84.00 from B&S

haha at the risk of sounding stupid... if u really wanna get into it, pop out the crankshaft and get the end chopped off to right where the taper ends.. the shaft seems to be long enuf to lose an inch. but then u get into the trouble of having to balance the shaft and then getting a torque wrench and putting everything back in the right way with the proper torque :S
ps. if u put the piston in backwards "by accident" u'l have some maddd torque for about 10 minutes... lol

hey theraw,
The engine you have is specifically built for a generator. the taper bore slips into a hub inside the generator and over the keyway. You can go to your local machine shop and have a sleeve made that is tapered inside and has a straight 3/4" O.D. or 1" O.D. depending on what size your clutch is. I make them quite often here at my shop if you need one and cant find a local shop to fab it for you. I get 20.00 for the adapter sleeves plus shipping if I can help you out. Also if you find someone local to make it tell them your shaft is a #3 b&s taper. Thats a brown and sharp taper not a briggs and stratton LOL. Hope this helps out
