Has anyone ever used a jig saw with metal blades to cut frame parts? If so how did it turn out. I dont have access to a band saw but want clean cuts....

Sure, I have cut a lot of metal parts using a jigsaw and a sawzall. In fact I just finnished cutting the end off an oil tank to make a fire pit for the back yard. Around here all fires must be contained. If fit is your concern then cut a little wide (or long) and sand or file to fit. HTH.........Terry

If you're worried about getting it straight, you can use a piece of angle iron as a guide. Make sure the end is square, and clamp it on the tube for a guide.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think you can purchase a band saw from Harbor Freight for about the same price as a decent cut off saw...?!??!

IF YOU CAN IT, WOULD BE MORE COST EFFECTIVE DUE TO THE COST OF WHEELS. THE LONGER TIME YOU SPEND W/ A BAND SAW WILL OFF SET THE COST OF SELFCONSUMING WHEELS FOR SURE, BUT SOMETIMES TIME IS MONEY AND MONEY IS TIME.
I JUST HAVE TWO (2) CUTOFF SAWS SO THAT IS WHAT I USE. I BUY THE WHEELS BY THE DOZEN AND JUST GO ON.:me:
IF YOU USE A BAND SAW YOU CAN DRINK MORE BEER !!!!!!!

Hello, I guess I will add my 2 cents worth on this. I have both a band saw and a Cut of saw. I had used the cut off saw for a while and then was offered 2 band saws real cheap. Ever sinse I got the band saws I have not touched the cut off saw. The band saw cuts so much better on angles than the chop saw or cut off saw ever did. It acually has saved time rather than taking longer because it is more persise. Saving from filing or grinding the the metal again after using the cut off saw! Any one want to buy a cut off saw cheap contact me!! You can cut straight cuts faster with the cut off saw but when it comes to angles and percise work the band saw Rules!! Just my 2cents worth. No down grading ment!!:smash:

Hello, You can get a cheaper one through Harbor Frieght or your local Tractor Supply Company (TSC) for around 275.00. I got 2 used Delta units that where in great shape and they both cut like new for 75.00 for both. A man seen I was building with the chop saw and just told me he would sell me a band saw for 75.00 but got over to his Machine shop and he had 2. He had bought new Big commercial ones and did not need them so I got them Cheap, Cheap. I luck out on that deal!!:hot:

Hey Nitefall,

What brand and model are the metal blade cutoff saws and how to you setup the precise angles like 37 deg.?

I have looked into the Dewalt Saws, but it seems hard to setup the angles on it.

Thanks,
Mike

I use a Makita 10" Compound Radial Miter Saw w/ a 1/8" Abrasive Blade...I bought it @ a yard sale for $125.00 , almost new...I can cut angles to 52 degrees and compound miters to 45 degrees at the same time...Very handy and fast. I can cut enough metal for 2 frames with each blade (@ $6.00 each). It's more accurate than a chop saw and will lock on any angle.:lush: Check out those Yard Sales!!!
