Hi there

Does anybody got some good pics of mechanical brakes?

Thinking of building my own caliper, but need some inspiration and advice to avoid all the not-to-do things.

how about bicycle discs? like this:

Will this stop a 70 cc barstool?

I don´t think they could. Probably they would work fine and when you need them the most and hit them hard they could break and leave you going tangent to the path :P

Why would you like to make your caliper if they are so cheap?

Here´s the link to one just plug in assembly.

Thats just what I need, but im located in Denmark, Europe, so shipping is going to cost more than the caliper. And i don't know any stores that sell this kind of stuf in my hood.

+ im a industrial engineer, and like to make things from scratch.. :-)

here's What i did so far. Everything is homemade

Niceeeee looking job. I like the rear bearing housing.

Have you checked the turning radious your spindle will allow you to have?

I´m making a go kart right now, and when I thought I got everythign in front O k I noticed the turning radious would barely allow me to do one 180 degree turn in a normal street width, so I wanted it to be less. Had to do everything once again. Should´ve done it OK the first time.

I also like to make things from scratch....sooo if you´re an industrial engineer, I think that you could try making a nice one that is hydraulic....those are magic....or you could look for a wrecked motorcycle for one.

If you really need to make yourself a mechanical one....I think that I´d be better if you make the brake disc from scratch and caliper too. Of course making them tougher for the working conditions and being safer too.

It seems the engine is from a scooter...can´t you find the brake assembly the scooter had?

I would suggest you decide if you want to go with a mechanical or hydraulic braking system.

Then I would locate the brake pads you want to use and build from there.

The only other thing I would recommend and would most likely work, is a hydraulic brake setup from a motorcycle. I am sure you have a motorcycle shop or salvage yard in your area there.
Good Luck! :smash:
