Hi every one:
I talked to Dave from Dare Motorsports out of Texas. He tells me he can double my horse power from from Tecumseh 6.0 He does all the machine work and tells me he has a dyno.

Has any one had work completed by these Folk's?

For around $200 Dave tells me he can make my stool give me the shits when I hit the gas and it still will not load-up and be ok to operate at any speed!

I will have head work done, bigger steel cam/springs etc. And of course that pesky governor removed.

Thanks

I am not sure who they are, but if your going to buy the engine and then spend money upgrading it, why don't you just get the Briggs Animal engine?

Honestly, 12 HP on a BSR, how fast do you want to go? I can get 40 MPH out of my 6.5HP with a TAV2.

You need to remember when your friends want to ride it they are more likely to wreck also...

I guess I cannot say too much because I am building my new BSR with a 125cc engine with 4 gears..

I gotta agree with mike,
If your gonna spend the money go with an engine already designed for high performance usage. Better rods, cranks pistons and you dont have to worry about the governor. A tecumseh is kind of an oddball engine to be hopping up anyways, there are very few aftermarket parts available and im not sure if there are too many folks that know anything about them.

But to answer your question,
I have been racing karts for 26 years all over the state of texas. I ran the ikf, wka, and the tkc circuits and have never heard of dare motorsports. I have also been involved with the jr dragsters as well as micro midgets with my son and been all over the state again and then some. However there are a lot of performance oriented shops in the great state as well as the surrounding states that deal with karts, JR's and midgets so to know them all is almost impossible. The choice is yours but I think that Mike hit the nail on the head with the briggs line of engines. Just my 2 cents worth.

Which ever path you choose good luck and have fun with it

Hello:I have talked to this fellow by the name of Dave and he builds cart motors all the time and he thinks Tecumseh's are a good motor to build! I just bought a Rocket stool that came with a 6.0HP Tecumseh motor. Dare Mfg has his own dyno and he will replace the plastic cam with a high lift steel one, different valve springs & keepers. Rework the head and complete other machine work to make this thing rock. Dave tells me his motors will smoke a alcohol motor and is very reliabale. A stock motor will run around 3,500 rpm's and his will run around 6,500 rpm's with a built motor with a good steel racing rod? This guy nails down all the numbers on cam profiles etc. Here is his web-site http:hillsboro.net/users/dare/dare/dare04/index.html Check him out and tell me what you think?Garman351

Yah the guy seems to know the tecumseh engine well just from what little I saw. Just keep a few things in mind

Most every engine builder including home builders have some sort of dyno. This doesnt make him a good engine builder. Most STOCK raptors turn between 7,000 and 7,800 rpm on gas or alky. And thats with a stock profile camshaft, stock rod and piston. Put in a billet rod, dyno cam, and you can turn around 8,200 or so and still meet the stock specs!!!!

I do see your point and I think I know where youre coming from. You already have an engine and you want it to perform a little better and its only gonna cost you a few bucks compared to a new engine. Thats what hot rodding is all about, go fast for cheap. Just keep in mind when it breaks it was 200 bucks that could have been spent elsewhere. Look around on ebay, theres some good briggs flatty alky blueprinted engines for around 300.00 and have lots and lots of time left on them.

I have to agree Voodoo.

I have build a lot of car engines for racing. It is like taking a 2 bolt main block, with cast crack and rods and just beefing them up a bit with some high performance bearings, forged pistons and a nice set of heads and an intake with carb. You still got the stock block and internals and they will only last so long until KABOOM! :cussing:

I am not so sure what can be modified inside the Tecumseh to make it stronger and faster, but for $200 I am sure it is mainly going to be horsepower additions and not so much longevity.

But anyways...have at it and have some fun. If it blows up, then go with a racing engine that is made to beat on.

Well its probably gonna be a cam from plastic to steel, stock specs as I cant seem to find one unless you weld the lobe and regrind it, mill the crap out of the head to raise compression and break the rod so it windows the front of the block, and remove the governor. Not sure how far 200 bucks will go but it wont even buy me a carb for my open engine:bigcry:
But like you said, run it till it blows man

Thanks for the good info:
This Dave guy will be reworking the head and replacing the valve springs reworking the head and a metal cam. I'm not sure where he gets his parts from. I was told it should hold together I'm not out to run it wide open anyway for any great distances etc.
