I would use a #41 chain size because the #35 is more like a bicycle chain. And the sprocket really depends on the HP of you engine and are you going to to use a clutch or TAV?
Just a quick reference for you. I used a 6.5HP with a TAV2 and a 40T #41 rear sprocket and ran about 40 MPH and had good over all performance.

i am actaully gonna use a 44 tooth Profile BMX sprocket, fits a #41 chain like a glove. www.danscomp.com (http://www.danscomp.com) is a popular bmx parts site, probably a bit more pricey, but they have sprockets all the way down to 28 tooth... however, the sprocket i am going to use will need a custom adapter plate, and it's aluminum, so i dont think it will last too extremely long, but for now, it will have to work cuz it was free!

Have the same type of question and don't want to start another post. I have just started my BSR and I am not going to be using a TAV. I am going to go with #41 Chain and I was curious what the best sprocket size front and rear I should use. The BSR will be powered by a 6.5 HP, 3600 RPM, 3/4" Bore 196CC engine (Harbor Freight). I appreciate any info you guys could supply.

Yes I bought mine from Mike last summer after this post. Also moved up to a #41 chain. Much stronger.

Chris;
So was the 40 tooth the ticket? I have about the same powertrain set up you have, from what we have talked about.

I have a 11 tooth sprocket on the clutch and a 66 on the axle. It works quit well with a 6.5 hp motor and me on it but I am thinking about going to a 70 ish spocket on the axle to give me more bottom end power.

Yes, dont recall what the TAV sprocket is maybe a 10 tooth and the rear is 40 at a #41 chain. Rear tires are 11.5 dia.. I think at 5,000 rpm it will do 40mph from a gearing program. Runs good, has low end and will get up to speed quick. This is with the govenor removed. 6.5 hp clone.

Good info. Thanks.
I am getting ready to pay for Mike's retirement with another order. I will have to post some new pictures. I had some parts into the chrome shop last week, and the gas tank is painted. I ended up straying from the flames. It looks good though.

I need a few more days. I haven't had enough time to color sand and rub it out. Two little boys take up alot of time.
