Lots of good running motors in this size.
A guy that goes by Tzi has a scooterworld website that shows a lot of homemade gopeds. it's down right now, but it was http://scooters.tziworld.com/
Simplest scooters are a knurled roller on the crank that engage the tire.
My Motorized Bike from edge motorsports is similar in design. The downfall is loss of power in wet conditions, so chain drive is better.
Most goped type scooters don't use a clutch, so you can't idle at a stop sign.
Some run a chainsaw motor, 2 stroke, high rpm.
here's a guy that made a sprocket to fit the existing sprocket on his chainsaw, http://www.geocities.com/ResearchTriangle/Forum/5450/goped/sprocket.htm he attached "G-code' files that you can take to a shop with a CNC machine. Really sweet, a gear that meshes with the gear already on the chainsaw, no belts, pullys, no chain.:cool_dude:
