I'M NEW TO B.S.R.S AND VERY EXCITED. GETTING READY TO BUILD MY FIRST ONE AND GATHERING PARTS AND DESIGN IDEAS. I HAVE MY FRAME IDEA LINED UP, AND I HAV AN OLD BRIGGS GO KART ENGINE FRON MY OLD GO KARTS. I'M REBUILDING IT WITH A HOT CAM AND AL THE EXTRA POWER I CAN SQUEEZE IN. MY QUESTION IS IM LOOGING FOR GOOD LOW END POWER FOR WHEELIES AND A DECENT TOP END (DOESN'T HAVE TO BE SUPER FAST IM STILL NEW AND SPEED WILL COME AS I GET MORE COMFORTABLE) DO I NEED A TAV ON THIS SETUP OR WILL A CLUTCH SET UP BE OK FOR STARTERS:blob_red: :blue_blob: :blob_red: :blue_blob:

Iceman,
From what I have read and done myself. If you want to easily pull the front end up for wheelies then go with a TAV2. Don't waste you time on a clutch. You will be much happier you did.

Thanx for the advice Mike. Assuming my motor has the mounting holes i will go with a tav, if not i might can fab up a mounting bracket. Next question is should i go with #35 or #41 chain pros cons etc? and how much narower are these axels that standard racing go kart axels? Also where can i get the knobby or more ofroadish non slick tires like stud munkey is using???:hot:

Hey Iceman,
The #35 chain is more like a bicycle chain. The #41 is about twice the size and stronger. #41 and #35 are both very common among karting. I prefer the #41 just for the additional strength because I ride my BSR hard and don't want a chain to break and then have to push it home. :bigcry:
I do not know the actual length of a go-kart axle, but on a barstool racer you cut it to more or less fit to the frame. One the Classic Cruiser the axle length is 28". If you're concerned about being top heavy and tipping over due to a short axle, do not worry. I have never run into a condition to were the BSR has wanted to go up on the side on it's own. When I am riding on two side wheels I actually have to turn it up.
The knobby tires can be purchased from apskarting.com. There are a few different brands of tires available, I know Burris makes them and they are called a Burris Dirt Grooved Tire and some manufactures refer to them as a Rain Tire if I remember correctly.
