HEY ANY OF YOU GUYS KNOW WHAT KIND OF CARB TO USE OR HOW TO MODIFY THE STOCK ONE TO RUN A REMOTE TANK ON A FLATHEAD BRIGGS 5HP? IM SURE I SAW IT DONE WHEN GOKART RACING WAS BIG AROUND HERE BUT CAN'T REMEMBER HOW IT WAS DONE. HAD A GREAT IDEA FOR A CUSTOM TANK BUT DON'T KNOW WHAT CARB TO USE TO RUN A REMOTE.:lush:

The carb you want i a tillotson. If your flatty is bone stock a tilly 304g or a 304f is the carb you want to use. The g is for gasoline and the f is for alky. The intake manifold you want is a wt-1 which is a 2 inch long bye .850 bore intake. The filter cup for the carb is a 890896 and your choice of filters of course. Remember if the tank is mounted lower than the carb you will also need a fuel pump. And dont forget your throttle linkage as a tilly doesnt come equipped with any. All these parts are online at www.dynocams.com (http://www.dynocams.com) and there are several other online jart shops that carry the same.
Start out with the carb needles at 1 round on the low speed needle and about 3/4 round on the high speed needle. Its probably gonna be a little fat on the bottom end and you can lean it out just a bit with the low speed needle(close it slightly). The high speed needle will control your rpm's and your top end mixture. Be sure you have a pretty hot ignition system if your gonna run this carb as it doesnt like weak points type. If the motor is running away with you idling the carb is too lean, open the low speed needle a bit and it will bring the idle down a bit for you. DONT SCREW WITH THE IDLE SCREW UNTIL THE CARB IS SET CORRECTLY. The bigest mistake made is the engine idles way too high because of a lean fule mixture and most tuners turn the idle screw down to compensate for this. To make sure the carb is set correctly, the motor will accelerate smoothly and cleanly throught out alll rpms under heavy acceleration ( the back wheels raised from the floor to allow the tires to spin is not heavy acceleration). If the engine pops or sputters on the low end, its too lean open the low speed just a bit, if it pops and blubbers on the top end its too rich, close the high speed just a bit and try it again. Once its set correctly it will pull hard all the way to top rpm's (5500 or so on a stock engine) Now you can set the idle at the desired rpm's. Good luck and if you need help tuning give me a buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
