Of course I like it. I just changed parade units in the Shrine and this is my new parade vehicle. Careful letting your daughter drive it, they go on 2 wheels very easily in a turn.

It looks nice,...but I think that you could build one yourself.

I think that it is just and atv frame with a briggs engine behind it and some ease fiberglass top ;)

I'm told these buggies were made by a company called Rupp which is now out of business and are at least 15 years old. Our current configurations include 6.5 hp Briggs (no governor), bugle exhaust, seperate Comet drivers and driven units, jackshafts, and Peerless differentials. Mine happens to have a Horstman driver and driven unit (no longer available) and is much smoother than Comet due to it's design for the driver. Brakes are mostly MCP though a few are converting to mechanical drum brakes on each side to get rid of the one tire turning backwards when you lock up the brakes. I personally prefer the hydraulic system as the mechanicals are having trouble locking up the tires. They are geared out to about 35 mph top speed.

The only problem I'm having with mine is I can't keep front wheel bearings in it. The steering mechanism is in front of the steering shaft rather than behind as in most conventional setups. This makes the vehicle turn very sharp but is very hard on the front wheel bearings. Add to this the bastard size of the bearings (3/4 x 1-3/8) which limits your options. This winter I'm going to convert mine to standard trailer tapered bearings with a 1 inch spindle axle which still accepts golf cart wheels to eliminate this problem.

Building one yourself would not be that difficult especially if you had one as a pattern to go by. The hardest part would be getting the bend right on the 4 uprights under each fender to support the body. We have a friend who is going to build us a mold so we can reproduce the body as over the years several have suffered damage and are getting in pretty bad shape despite repair.

If anyone is interested, I'll post some more pics the next time I have the body off but it probably won't be until this winter.
