Is this a good engine for a first time BSR builder? Will the 3/4" shaft be strong enough? Fun...?
TIA

I used one of these that I took off of a leaf blower , The Racer had 15" rear tires & I used a 72 tooth sprocket .....It ran liked a rabit dog in heat!

The briggs intec 6.5 would be a wonderful choice for a first time engine or even a great experienced engine. The 3/4" inch shaft will be plenty strong and this is the motorsports standard size for most 4 stroke applications. There are numerous aftermarket parts also available for the 6.5 and they are very moderately priced for the engine you are recieving. If you really want to get the most out of a 6.5, spend the extra cash and get the 6.5 intek I/C engine. this is the industrial/commercial engine which not only has a better warranty, it has the cast iron sleeve and ball bearing crank. This particular engine is the closest to the motorsports 6.5 which is called the animal. All animal parts will fit your 6.5. Good luck and have fun
