I have a 12 volt motor I am going to use, no its not a starter. The motor is off of a hydraulic pump. I am trying to figure out how to put a speed controler on it. Was told by the mfg. it runs about 4000 rpm no load and draws 30 to 40 amp. Any help would be appreciated.

You will need a PWM (pulse width modulator) controller. This is a solid state device that creates a square wave output to the motor and varies the rpm of the motor. Lots are available for 24vdc for scooters, wheelchairs and such...they usually take a pot or hall effect throttle for inputs...good luck

Thanks for the reply, I found out I can't vary my 12 volt motor, so I used a belt and idler pulley. Slow on take off but not brave enough to check top end, only have hand cart tires and wheels. This was my first stool and I went as cheap as I could.
