Started building new BSR frame today. I used 1" sq. tubing w/1/8" walls...pretty easy to work with and to weld....Doesn't look as cool as round tubing...I used a Comet "DIF" rear axel, had to fab a hub for the rear sprocket and had to rework the brake disc. For this build I am going to build a 3 leg stool, will keep it as short as possible.I am building the front spindles and will make them adjustable(15 degrees Camber and 10 degrees caster) this should help at higher speeds. 15* of camber negative or positive will place 1/2" of tire on the ground and when you turn the wheel you'll probley end up on your head as the weight will transfer so fast off the inside tire with the short wheel base and the higher center of gravity.

Your 10* of caster should be fine but you should be using about 0*to +.5*of camber.

Now if you were talking 15* of KPI(king pin inclination) in the spindle, I'd also re think that also as that will cause alot of weight transfer.

Your using the differential so freeing up your inside tire in a turn is not an issue and resisting tranfer will help you hold onto your beer without spilling in a corner.

Wouw, this one seems WIDE....maybe its just pic...

Seems like a great start, nice caliper ;)

Waiting for updates =)

Hey Elvergon, Yes it is a little wider than my other Stools....The frame width is 20". I did this because I am building the stool for this one , I am going to keep the stool as low as possible and try to make this Stool easy and comfortable to ride . Snakester:me: Up date on Camber and Caster....I set the caster @4 degrees and the Camber will be adjustable from NEG 10 degrees to POS 10 degrees. This is pretty much an experiment.

Yeah....you´ll have space for making adjustments...

Are you planning on having lots of torque? I think the rear sprocket its kinda big...what engine are you using for it?

Elvergon, I am using another 6.5 Honda Clone that I bought last week @ Harbor Freight . The rear sprocket is a 54 tooth , I usually use a 40 tooth , but the 54 should give a little more low end power , should be good for easier wheelies! :thumb:

Today I finished grinding the frame and applied the first coat of primer. I added a third bearing hanger to help support the long shaft side of the rear axle, I had to offset the "DIF" to align the sprocket, it probably didn't need it but I would rather do it now instead of later! I have a little sanding to do tomorrow , and then I am going to apply the paint. :lush:

Hey Billetboy, On this Racer I am using VEGA Slicks....6" wide on front & 8" wide on rear. The wheels are Polished 6"...6" wide on front & 9" wide on rear. Snakester:thumb:

Finished fabbing the wheelie bar today and got the remaining parts . Painted the first coat on the frame , tie rods, wheelie bar , and also deceided to paint the "DIF". I also have a 5 liter Hinny Steel keg that we emptied this weekend that I may use as a fuel tank. I may order a Jr. Dragster Fuel Cell from Summit Racing that will fit in the keg that should speed up the process instead of having to rework the keg with a petcock and a fill cap. My plans are to apply the 2nd coat of paint tomorrow and to spray the clear coat tomorrow night.

COOL!! Looking good! Keep up the good work. Where did you get the comet differential?

Seems its coming along nicely....are you just using blue for the frame? maybe you could mix another color to make it look better ;)

I got the COMET "DIF" at Northern Tool. It was 44" long , I cut it to the length I needed after I lined up the sprocket. I did add a third bearing to support the long side axle....I painted the frame Blue to match the engine. It is very dark Blue (the pic's looks lighter than it really is). I am going to use Polished Diamond Plate that will cover most of the frame and I was going to build the stool , but I have a line on a Chrome Harley- Davidson stool that is only 24" tall and is about 4" wider than a typical Bar Stool. I want to do some "PIN STRIPING"....Maybe white or orange ....WE will see!!!:thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Today I started to assemble my new Racer. Worked on the front spindles and mounted the wheels. I also installed the rear "DIF" axle w/ sprocket and brake disc. I had already cut and fitted the 1/8" Polished Diamond Plate. This gives alot of options for mounting the stool and also the engine. I fabbed an adjustable wheelie bar and I am using a set of 8" Chrome tie rods for the adjustment links. There is still alot of work to do , but at least I have a good start.

Hello, Good progress looking very nice. Cant wait to see it finished! I checked at Northern tool for a Comet Differential and all I could find was No Name Differential that looked like a peerless with 38" axle. Are you sure that is a Comet Differential it looks like a peerless. Look at the comet Differential on Rubicons Nitrous BSR it does not look the same! Anyway it looks like it will do the job! Keep up the great work.:hot:

I didn't have alot of time to work on the racer today, I did get the wheelie bar mounted, and the engine fastened in place. Then I could locate the Brake Caliper and install the chain. I found a Michelin Stool that I liked because it has 2 rings and is wider than most. I still had to modify it a little. I have deceided to try this racer with the stock exhaust and air breather....Maybe I will change it later. I installed the steering rod and tie rods ....I still have to finish the steering and mount the Bars.

I've been on vacation for a couple of weeks...I got to work on my new Racer today....Just about finished , only a few minor things left to do...Going to ride it tomorrow and make the final adjustments.I tried to make this one as neat as possible...I ran the brake line through the leg of the stool , to hide it a little. On my next one I would like to hide all cables and brake lines as much as I can. I am going to build a rear wing and some kind of front spoiler when I get a chance.

Great Job!! Looks sharp! Have you got extra rear bearings and brackets for your axle/Differential Assy? Could not see them in pics. Get some video of it making tracks! LOL :hot:

Yeah, good job....

I would love to see pics of the diff assembly. Would you mind showing some?

How does it feel at speed? how fast can you go?

We need some vids man

I´ll wait for some sun to show up so I can post a video...

but I will look at yours tomorrow ;)

Hey Snakester,

I was looking at your photos and I noticed on your hyd. brake caliper, you only used one line in. Is that because you used a handbrake lever? How do you activated the pads on the other side of the caliper?

Thanks,
Mike

Hey Mike, I have been using this single line Caliper from American Power Sports (Parts #MCP1375ser) on my last 4 Racers ....1 Line works both sides of the Caliper and I think that it looks cleaner w/only the 1 line ...I use the handlebar mount master cylinder....This way there is no cables to mess with. Very Nice work and great design! Looks professionaly done! Thanks for the pics I am putting a diff. on my Dual wheeled BSR and will be putting one more bearing and bracket on the left inside of axle do to the long axle extensions. Your brake setup is way cool also. I am doing about the same as you only I am making a hydraulic steering shaft mounted master cyclinder with no cables either and running a steering wheel. I did not want to run cables to master cylinder and wanted to use a steering wheel so I designed a Master cylinder that will mount on steering ghaft and have a lever like the ones you see on the cable type controls. I will post pics soon on both of those mods. Cant wiat to see some vids! Great Job!!:hot:

Hey Guy's , Thanks for all the kind word's....Took the new Racer for a test run Saturday....It ran great...I had to adjust the Camber a little, then it handled pretty good at higher speeds...The "DIFF" rear made it easier to handle and to turn...We have a local car show this Sat. and we expect to have @15 Racers there ....I hope to make some Video's to post!
