alright guys, we got those 7 h.p. lawn mower engines, yea yea yea,
and we got those 55 tooth sprockets,
i could just talk about sprockets for hours .....:?
but ....
how about the real meat of the matter
the BarStool itself !!!
you got single-rung and double-rung barstools,
you got logo barstools and plain barstools,
you got free ones that you stole from work and you got ones that cost $100,
you got 24" barstools and 30" barstools,
you got wood barstools and metal barstools ( i better not ever see a wood one ),
you got barstools that really did service in a bar and you got something homemade (which i don't think really quals as a barstool but who cares),
So whats everyone using?
(I just got 2 barstools. One for $40 for my BSR, no-logo, double-rungs, 30";
and also a Coca-Cola barstool that i'll use in my garage. It is alos 30" and a double-rung.)

Hey FatDog,
I wanted to add my .02 cents...
I used to go to this local Ale House here and a couple of times late at night and many pitchers of beer, on my way out I took the stool that the bouncer sits on at the door.
How I did this...When I was getting ready to leave in the wee hours, I would wait for the bouncer at the door to get up and walk away for a few seconds and then I would make my move.
I thought about using them for the BSR but they had wooden legs, so now they are in my shop.
I have always wondered what the bouncer thought when he came back to sit. :D

:D
He probably thought that from now on he wasn't going to drink so much coffee while working so that he then wouldn't have to hit the men's room so often, and he could keep an eye on those darn stools. :D
I bounced for one weekend at a surfbar down the street from my place in SanDiego. The owner put on some 'wild' promotions with the ladies. No bouncer ever had time to sit for more then 10 seconds at that place. (the regular bouncer called in sick one time and Billy grabbed me from my 'regular' chair in the place and told me if I carded and bounced that night, all drinks were on him)

Do you guys prefer swivel or non-swivel? 24" or 30" high? What do you consider the minimum diameter at the base for proper fit over the engine?

Hey Bob,
I used a bar stool with a 15" width and it fit my 6.5 HP engine pretty good. I would say the larger the easier the fit.
As for height, when I first built mine I wanted to sit lower to the ground so I used a 24" stool. The problem I ran into was the engine was hitting on the stool, so I went with the 30" instead.
The height and width of the bar stool play a big role as for what you can stuff under it. You also should look at the leg design ex. taper or more stright, one ring -vs- two rings. You know what I mean.
For the seat, I started off with a swivel and was going to tack weld it solid because when I was going around corner by body wanted to turn the opposite way of the corner. But once I got used to it, I now use the swivle to turn my body into the corners. And besides it is cool to be sitting on the BSR and be able to spin around the other direction.
I hoped that helped you out.

Thanks, I figured it was really a matter of space and personal preference.
Just wanted to see what others were using and why?
What do you think about stools with backs? Just a hassle or more comfortable at the starting line?

Hmm... stools with backs...not really for me. I think they kind of take away from the real look of a BSR.
Thats just my opinion..

A Bar Stool Racer purist! I guess I tend to agree with you. You take part of the edge off the racer if you have a back. If you need a back, get a gokart!
