Hello, Try barstoolracersupply.com they are 1.45 ea. not sure what shipping would be but should be under 10.00 including shipping. If not is your steering shaft 5/8"? When you said single did you mean with one arm with both inner tie rod end holes or one arm for each inner tie rod hook ups? I can make either one cheap and ship for under 10.00 around 7.00. Let me know!

ok its 1:00 here on thursday, i took a day off from work to do some things around the house before the cold weather gets here. yada yada yada anyways i'm feelin kinda bummed out thinkin i got ahead of my pants last night and put on the hangers althought i tacked them in i'm thinking i should get the axle assembly and redo it. i dont want to just throw up my hands and quit....its either hard to get them things strate up and down or either my eyes are crooked.... i just recieved my engine plate today dont know if i should put it on or not now.... this i would say is a little more difficult in mearsurings than installin c notches in trucks.... just tryin not to think about it at all .....

sap sap sap sap sap sap sap ....... i know thats what yall thinkin.....LOL.....

hello, sounds like you are doing ok! Did you use a square or level to set them up? Use some of those magnetic triangles to hold it square until you get them tacked in place. Weld on each side of it so the weld does not pull the piece to one side after it cools! I have seen a lot of people just tack one side down thinking it was striaght and came back later to find it crooked! Also I would wait befor putting the motor plate on ontil I got my engine and rear axle. The plate needs to be square with the axle. Then tack the plate on and set the engine in place and see it it lines up square with the axle. Hope this helps and keep us posted!!

Hey Fenters,

Don't worry...Just brake the tacks and clean up the surfaces.

I do not use the rear axle assembly to put the hangers on. What I do is measure from the back of the frame (I usually use a square and hang it off the back frame rail) and measure in to the mark in the plans. I then find the center of the frame with the square and make two centering marks on the frame (one in front of the hanger and one behind) I then draw a straight line from each center mark and then place the hanger on the center line and line up the center of the hole on the hanger with the first placement mark you made.

I have found that using the welding magnets and a square I can get the hangers straight pretty easy. Then tack weld each end, not the sides. After you tack the first end you may have to press the other end down with your hand or a c-clamp because sometimes the tack will raise the other side when it cools. You can then make a couple tacks in the center of the hanger on each side for support.

Before you run your finish welds, I always finish weld the ends of the hanger first and then I run one side and let it cool to the touch and then hit the other side.

This method I used works perfect and I have never had a hanger move yet.

Good luck and I hoped that helped....

I agree with mike that method works the best! I guess I should have clarified the ends unstead of the sides! LOL

Fenters

I agree with Mike and Moto that that is a good way to do the axle brakets. As far as the bracket being straight up and down, the cages for the bearings have a small amount of play to keep the bearing lined up on the axle.

If you are concerned with them being straight, go ahead and get the axle, bearings, and flanges mounted and that will help keep them in line while you weld things fully.

Hope all is going well, keep it up and post some more pics...

cool, thanks guys.... i used arrow magnets like in the plans and a sqaure. i also tacked the front and back and not the sides. so i'll prolly have some time tommorrow night to remove them and redo them. it's just metal it can be fixed<---- thants what i need to be thinkin. but appreciatte the support....

i want to build another one just a little different maybe a 2 seater or something so i was wondering what my this project would be woth to someone else, debating to put it on ebay or just to sell it to one of you guys.....

well it has been on the backburner now during the holiday. so tonight i went up to biglots and purchased a stool not to bad lookin checkered for $20, startin this week on barstool mounts and steering set up. hope to get pixs this weekend.....

also i was wanting to know something, tthese wheels down on the link could i remove the bolts and stick a hub on there? i know they would work with the front but just concerned about the back might stick a lil widdder one on the back though. thanks....

Yes, they would work but I would go with wider on the rear. You could make hubs for the rear to fit the rims. If you use a 1" or 1 1/4" rear axle you can go to Tractor supply and pickup a couple of 1" or 1 1/4" Hubs they have and weld a plate onto them and put the bolt pattern in them (centered of course). You will find them in the sprocket section. They are for weld on sprockets for machinery but work great for making hubs or making a sprocket for your axle. They already have a 1/4" keyway built into them so they will fit Kart axles! Good Luck!

well today i went out and bought my wheels and tires, whoa only 20bucks for the set of 4 new.... hahahaha they came from harborfrieght made for handtrucks and dollies and i went over to northern tool and bought two hubs to fit the wheels 2-13/16" bolt kart and i'll have to open up the centers a lil on the rear for the hub to slide threw. i wanted the look of the nice racing sliks but i didnt want to spend that much money. so i sacraficed for these....

part numbers:
harborfreight 30900
northern tools 138291

so i will give credit to this guy, i still havent been able to get in touch but thanks if you read this....

Hey Fenters, I agree w/ Moto about the rear tires need to be wider. You are right about the cost of nice looking Slicks. I just purchased alot of kart parts and I have several sets of New Firestone Racing Speedway Slicks...11.5x8x6 . They retail for @$63.00 each ...I will sell them for $75.00 per pr. + $17.50 shipping . If interested just let me know. Snakester

Ditto on wider tires on back for better stability. I went about the same route as you did with my wife's little buggy and they do work. However, make sure you keep the tires aired up properly and evenly or the kart will have a tendency to "rock" which can be dangerous.

fenters2005
January 3rd, 2007, 07:16 PM
thanks for the tip, you have some pix of your wifes stool. and did you change the back tires and wheels out yet?

CritterBuddy
January 4th, 2007, 08:26 AM
Changing the rear tires out on my wife's little buggy is still on my "to-do" list. She doesn't ride it that often so I always check the tires before she does. Unfortunetly I sold my digital camera in anticipation of getting a new one and that's also still on my "to-do" list. :hammer:

Her buggy isn't a BSR. It's actually a very small go-kart I converted for her. She needed something to get around on during my Shrine parades, doesn't have a good sense of balance and of course needed storage for all the girly things she needs or buys, so I converted this kart and put an ice chest on it for a seat. When I finally get another digital camera I'll get some pics posted.

ok been thinking you guys have more experience in barstools and how they feel and operate so i guess i will get a little wider fatter tire and wheel combo for the rear and use those other 2 HF wheels for maybe a trailer. thanks guys....

Snakester
January 5th, 2007, 08:23 PM
Fenters, That sounds like a great idea!!! 2 reasons: Wider tires for a more stable BSR and everybody needs a trailer to haul the beer! And reason 3 it gives you something else to Fabricate!!!:thumb: Snakester

havent updated with you guys in a little while now. been collecting parts.
front wheels and tires (harborfrieght dollies)
rear wheels and tires (13x5.00x6.00 turf savers with 1pc white wheels)& hubs
6.5 sterling engine
steering colum built and handle bar assembly built

althought, i'm now thinking of building a barstool frame (legs) just because i tried a test fit today with engine and barstool and its not hitting the tank yet but its hitting the rear plastic above the carb. and if i build the legs i'll just have them bent over the frame and i could also lower the down quite a bit and chop the handle bars down. and give me a less center of gravity.

Also on your tires, as long as they aren't DOT approved tires, you need to check the air pressure everytime you ride it. They will say if they are or aren't on the sideway, but all racing tires are not. And they leak air at a fairly good rate when not in use. Mine loose about 10 lbs every 2 weeks or so, and thats alot considering I only run 20 -25 lbs in mine to get a even wear pattern.

ok i'll do it says not intended for highway use. but they prolly all say that. i hope i just can get threw with this project, been having minitruckin withdrawels lately. so i might also have to raise the rear axle so i want have that much ground clearance. i have an idea for this bsr as my own added touches, will see....

got the sterling engine throttle linkage set up today. the hondas and the clones already have the screw down cable attachment on rear and side of engine. i used the rear for the outside shielding and the side i used the bolt itself and screwd the bolt into the spring and then into the motor. played with the throttle for about ten minutes.....pretty solid quick spring back.... easier than i thought. here's some pix.

Looking good! Nice build thread. You make it look easy. One comment on the front tires. If those are TSC dolly-style wheels, they tend to wobble (a lot) at speed (say 15 MPH or higher). I've got them on the front of a two-seater go-kart. The bearings wear out fast, too. I'd be cautious using them for anything but low-speed testing on a BSR, if that. The tires have a high profile and will squirm a lot. Keep up the good work!

yeah i agree :) i know from experience lol i put 4 of the dolly wheels on mine and a couple doughnuts later the center hubs had torn right out of them.....

why you gettin rid of it all... personally i would keep it just for a fun toy.. you can always upgrade a piece at a time.. i did that with mine., i had mechanical brakes.. then i found a caliper setup (from a ninja, i think i got it for under $20) on ebay..then i upgraded to 1.250 axle from 5/8" etc.. just did it a piece at a time till i had it at the state it is now..

fenters2005
April 25th, 2007, 12:35 AM
well its not that i'm fed up with it. it was deff fun to build and had fun and enjoyed building it. i understand the point of upgrading piece by piece. its just how the process goes build it rode it and now sellin partin it off. i'm not fed up with it. really cant explain it. i learned so much with this and would like to thank everybody for helpin threw the struggle of some of my stupid questions.....

You did a good job and should be proud of it. As far as stupid questions go I do not think any question is stupid. What is Stupid is never asking questions!!! The definition of Stupid is: being unlearned or untaught. Without questions we remain stupid!! So do not think less of yourself for asking questions all good mechanics, engineers, scientists, Doctors, etc... ask questions. Those that dont remain unchanged in there knowledge and before long are behind in the changing times and become stupid in their profession!! A bad question then is one that was never asked!!! If you learn from what you do then you are doing it right!!! Chin up man!! I have built a lot of things that I see I can improve on how to do it next time. We all look for ways to improve our builds. I do not believe we ever get to a place that we say Its the best I can do and no improvements are needed! But be not discouraged but rather incouraged!! What if nascar drivers never improved there cars?? Never asked questions like How can I make it go faster, steer better, last longer, be safer, etc...???? Any way I believe I stated my thoughts on questions. Do not give up on your dreams and stretch your imagination! Keep up the good work!!:thumb:

thanks moto and eek, yeppers its still together i want take any of it apart until i start gettin paid on some parts. kinda want to keep my motor. it starts on first pull every time and this thing screams. i want to sell it and then i want to keep it i'm undecided. i've really been wantin to get back into minis so who knows.

yeah moto, i appreciate all those answers you've helped me with. i sometimes feel like there isnt alot of people ever on this forum and i see you usually the only one been answering questions and i appreciatte that alot. i've learned alot on here i garrauntee that. it was a fun build and could be even "FUNNER"---> if thats a word. but yeah we'll see how it goes in the following weeks.

eek, since i moved the seat back was due to i didnt want to turn my stool sideways so i built a stool stand with 1x1x1/8 box on the back and connected it to the steering colum. now when i rode it last night i wouldnt have wanted a stool for myself this throttle is very sensitive and i rest my feet the front spindle support bar. its comfortable for sure. i like it but it takes away from the whole barstool theme and make its just a kart with a high seat. i call it a barseat racer now. LOL...... its fun. at first i was it has look like feel like and represent and then i said the heck with it its mine so i built it like that. have fun with it.....

thanks again.Ryan.
