hello bsr freinds.......my name is dave from michigan new to the building of my first bsr..my question to you guy's is your opionon on putting a artic cat 440 snowmobile motor on my bsr...( any problem's i may face. )

I have had the same idea myself. The problems I see are:


Engine clearance under the stool.
Clutch setup
Hooking engine to axleI have a drive off a Skidoo with the pulley and a brake built on. My only concern was the size of the drive is so large it would look like crap. And I think the belt would get in the way of the stool.

I have wondered if there is a chain clutch you can get for that type of engine. If so, then your rocking. I would consider a single cylinder instead of the twin for space.

A long time ago when I was 15, I built a go-kart with a single cylinder snowmobile engine with the actual drive from the snowmobile and all that thing did was spin tires and do dough nuts. There was so much power!!

I would like to build some form of a go-kart again with a twin cylinder setup just for fun...

thank you mike for the input i'll do some check'n on the a chain clutch for it..... i deal with a customer from work that make's clutch's .. just maybee ( cross finger's.... lol ) they might be able to make one for me..

i HAVE RACED SMOWMOBILES ON ASPHALT W/ NOS, IT WAS A RUSH @ 140 MPH.
YOU CAN CUSTOM MAKE A STOOL TO FIT @ ANYTHING. I HAVE SEEN A TURBINE ENGINE ON A STOOL AND A SPORSTER ENGINE ON ONE.
I PERSONALLY THINK THAT IT WOULD BE TOO MUCH. BUT WHO AM I, AFTER SOME OF THE THINGS I HAVE DONE IN MY LIFE. THE STANDARD STOOL LENGTH WILL NOT WORK FOR A BUNCH OF REASONS. THE LONGER YOU MAKE IT THE STEERING WILL GO AWAY. IF YOU MADE IT SO THE DRIVER IS CLOSE TO THE FRONT AXEL AND THEN PUT ANOTHER STOOL OR TWO ON IT THAT MIGHT WORK. I THINK IT WOULD BE LIKE RIDING IN A CAR WITH THE DRIVER THAT HAS DRANK TO MUCH VODKE. NOT A REAL SAFE VENTURE FOR ALL CONCERNED.
BUT HEY IT IS AMERICA, JUST GET THE INSURENCE PLANS PAID UP TO DATE.
