I have most of my bar stool figured out and I'm about to start buying parts. The only thing I can't find is a short axle to fit my 17" wide frame.
I needa 1" axle 25 or 26" long. The shortest I can find is 33". Who sells axles this short? I'd prefer a threaded axle.
Mbean - I see in another thread that you simply cut the ends off your axle. How are you holding the wheels on without the threads? Can you post a pic of this?

Stoolpigon,
It is ok to cut the axel to the size you need. You can also leave a couple of inches and take it to a machine shop and have them put the threads back on the end.
The rear wheel hubs have a allen screw that clamps the axle well enough to keep the tires on. I have gone pretty fast around corners and have ridden on the side many times with no problems.
You need to remember, you are not ripping corners like a racing kart so there is not as much load on the wheel hubs. I also spoke with some other people and they do the same thing.
I would just get an axel a little longer than you need and then cut to size. Don't worry about the wheels coming off, if that was the case I would have had that happen already. :D

I like the clean look of a snap ring. If your using racing hubs this is the way to go. I have the machine shop make mine at 24 inches long. and there perfect for our stools. Glenn
