Thunderbolt51... Sweet Ride... very nice, how fast will that thing go with the animal engine on it? I'll bet that thing screams... you might need a wheelie bar on it...

Hey TBolt51, Great color on a really cool ride. Man that thing looks like a Steam Roller from the front!!! Looks fast just setting still. I would really think about a wheelie bar and maybe a Parachute!!! Great Job.:cheers: Snakester

Thanks for the compliments guys. Haven't started it yet so I don't even know what it sounds like and don't have any idea how fast it'll go but I bet it'll pick up the heart rate somewhat, as in scary,,,lol. Going to wait for warm weather to try it and also want to find a stiffer throttle return spring first and I want to make a clutch/chain guard for it, has Horstman Reaper clutch. It seems to steer and roll alright just pushing it around the driveway with the fat tires. Was glad to finally get it out of the garage so I have room for my other projects, it took almost two years to get it this far as I have several garden tractor Super Stock puller projects under way. You can see some of my stuff at the links in my Yahoo profile under Geo's. I have enough stuff minus engine and stool to build another unit but may go the ice cooler route instead of a stool or may use a large metal contractors wheelbarrow like a T bucket body (turned around). Also have some 24x14x12 turf tires on 12x12 alum rims and 2.50x10 skinnies on alum for the front for a hot rod project with a 45hp. Kohler Pro Stock engine on Alky but haven't figured out how I want to do it yet. Just love to build wild things.

I bought some small high speed wheelie wheels for it but thought I'd wait to see if it needed them, I spent quite some time deciding the weight bias and think it'll be stable at high speed, big wheelies wasn't a goal (but welcome as I'm used to pulling them in my pullers, lol),,, I've always loved seeing BIG FAT TIRES and an engine to smoke them, also considered building a bsr with a homemade turbine from a truck turbo or may even go with batteries and an electric race motor. The color is Omaha Orange a fleet color from the 60's still in use.

Cool another Garden Tractor puller on the forums! Check out my Garden Tractor puller under "Other Cool Toys" Yours look great! What size 4 cylinder engine is in your Blue puller? Where do you pull at? I was thinking about making a BSR Puller using 26 X 12 X 12 pit Bull II pulling tires on Rear. Nice pullers. Nice BSR!!:thumb:

Thanks a lot Motofast, always good to meet another puller.. Tractor pulling is my major obsession but I love anything motorized and custom built or heavily modified and really enjoy building things. What I love about that sport is the breadth of it all the way from radio controlled micros with weedwhacker engines to unlimiteds with multiple engines, automotive and aircraft engines- V's & radial & turbine. Our club has 1 and 2 cyl. g.t. engines, motorcycle/boat-Mercruiser/automotive-4's & 8's/snowmobile poweereed tractors. I also look to others for ideas and/or inspiration and spend some time just looking at photos and such to try to picture in my mind how I want to do something. All of my 4 cylinder Supermods are Ford 2.3L. based (one is 2.85L. 500 Holley, one tall block 2.6L. Hilborn injected, one 2.5L. Super T70 turboEFI, one 2.3L. 48DCOE Webers) full race engines with SVO aluminum racing heads, roller cams, crankfire ignitions on Methanol, etc., the whole shebang. The wife and I pull with Western New York Garden Tractor pullers, she's in the same classes as I with her own tractors, she loves to haul ass down the track and does a great job driving and loves to win, she also really looks forward to getting on the bsr. Somewhere I seen a photo of a bsr with big tires on it, say 10" rims and maybe Hoosier racing tires that I like and may do something like that. As for a bsr puller it'd sure look wild but wouldn't actually be a good puller, now ya got me trying to picture one, lol, as I already have everything except the stool and trans,,, hhhmmmmm.

Your just like me into all kinds of Motorized Monster Rides. I like coming up with different styles and use my imagination to build something wild. I wish I had gotten a lot more pics of the things I have built. That first puller I built was from scratch and had no previous knowledge of pulling or building one! But my first year with it I won the State Points Championship with it in 2004 for the small bike division. I even beat the Big Bikes when I entered it in that class. Just did not Pull in that class enough times to win the championship but got 3rd place that year in that class also. I know the BSR would not be good to try and pull in Garden Tractor pulling do to the wieght power differences but thought it would be cool to build a lighter sled for BSR's and design the BSR just for pulling. You could even use it to pull your pullers around at the meets! Any way looking forward to your next build!:thumb:

Nice pullers thunder! Any suggestions on building a mini puller out of an old troy built lawn tractor? let me know.:cheers:

Thunderbolt51
December 28th, 2006, 04:46 AM
Thanks Woodchuck, LAWN tractors are NOT used or even suitable for garden tractor pullin, most lawn tractor engines are verticle shaft and belt driven and have VERY light duty drive trains and have 8-10" rims, on the other hand garden tractors are horizontal shaft, belt/shaft/hydro driven with 12" rims and much sturdier frames and drive lines, NO comparison between the two except they both were used for mowing/towing/blowing. IH Cub Cadets (shaft/gear driven) and Wheel Horses (belt driven) are among the most popular/durable tractors used, many people use thee Cub Cadet chassis and change hood/grilles to their favorite brands such as J.Deeres. I have several Cubs suitable for building if your interested or complete pullers available also. It's cheap for a family to go pulling/maintain once you get past the cost of the tractor(s) and a means to get it there. There are 3 clubs in our area to pull with WNY/CNY/Eagle Garden Tractor Pullers. Give me a call for any info. We start pullers at 8 yrs. old all the way up to grand parents, men/women/boys and girls, the BEST motorsports out there. We do county/country fairs, firemens carnivals, tractor pull tracks and other venues, and even indoor National events on the off season in some areas. Our club/sport covers the gammut for engine choices, mild to wild, gas/diesel/alcohol, 1-8 cyl. except 6's, 1050-1825lbs., 26" and 31" tires, 2/4 cycle and can include multiple engines. Anyone would be VERY impressed with the power and speed of these vehicles, a great sport for tinkerers, builders, families. Classes/vehicles vary greatly by region, most popular in farm states/regions US/Canada/W.European/Austrailian. I'm glad to help others to get into the sport.

Motofast, yes, we're all gearheads at heart, anything that gets the heart pumpin faster will do the trick, pride in building FUN unique/unusual vehicles makes it easy to attract others and strike up a long conversation. Here's an interesting although human powered unit ( an outhouse racer,, lol) that may give you ideas;

after lookin at some other bsr's, think I'll make my next bsr (for the wife)more compact, a little shorter wheelbase and use a handlebar (drag bars or maybe even ape hangers) with hand controls and maybe a flathead engine instead, so many ideas to sort out. Fun just running thru ideas.

I initially bought an EXPENSIVE Harley barstool but sold it to a friend, then I bought an orange classic style stool instead that was much more reasonably priced. It's nice to go with a theme or logo style racer if ya wanna pay the price.

Thats some wild wheels alright!! Orange Crush looks sweet. Is he in your group of pullers? I have seen the other pullers on different sights. They are nice!! I have a 37 ford Coupe mini body I am going to build something out of but just do not know which way to go with it! Was going to build a puller with it but not sure now! The Bumper Cars are sweet. Someone spent some time building those! Yep thats what i am into. Things like that interest me more than about anything else. Like a gas powered pogo stick that will go about 50 foot in the air and about 100ft long jumps! LOL:rofl: When it comes to thinking outside the box my wife says I am the best. She does not quite: word it that way but I understand what she means.LOL:laughing: Nice pics! Enjoy seeing different concepts and ideas!:thumb:

Thanks Moto1Fast, I enjoy meeting like minded people such as you guys,,,, that's funny about your wife's assessment of you, a good chuckle there, I can certainly relate to that, lol. No, the Orange Crush isn't in our group, wish it were. For more photos go to my photo albums on my site, twin jet turbine puller, homemade 120+ cube single cylinder supercharged flatheads with dual 4" stacks, twice turbo'd diesels and many others in addition to many of my past projects. I try to keep abreast of what's happenin' on the planet, sometimes forget where I see things. I love those bumper cars also and would love to build one, saving part of our heritage as well as having something radically different from the run of the mill, was actively looking for one but gave up/was distracted by other ideas. I look to many different sources for ideas, my pullers include parts from drag racing/sprint car racing/tractor pulling/hot rodding and such, many of our members come from many other motorsports after many years of competition because of lesser costs, inclusion of families, better safety, not having to travel so far and other reasons. I Love to watch my hero Chip Foose make the ordinary fantastic, watch American Hot Rod, American Chopper, the Biker Buildoffs, Monster Garage and more, enjoyed many of Big Daddy Ed Roth's creations, all of that stuff is very cool and a source of inspiration, I'm like a sponge soaking it all up. I even looked into building high performance twin engine (g.t. singles and twins) hovercrafts after seeing a wild video of a race gliding/flying over land and water sideways at high speed. I even get a charge out of unmotorized things like the guy who glided 22 miles acrossed the English Channel a few years ago at high altitude on oxygen with a custom made carbon fiber wing strapped to his torso and a special liteweight flight suit/helmet, almost looked like a modern Superman. I also like sand sport vehicles/ mud buggies/rock climbing/ land/water/air speed record vehicles, the strange looking aircraft that Dick Ruttan comes up with, lots of off the wall/out of the box type thinking that I try to emulate. Wish I had the time/money/space to just play with ideas. I never had any kids (that I know of,, hheeehhheee), so my toys are my seeds/creations. Also, many times a project evolves as I go along and looks much different from what I started with, just like children, sometimes my toys also misbehave or give me an assache so I ignore them for awhile,,,, LOL. I always feel that creating/building is at least half the fun of having/using them. Just was thinking I used to also enjoy watching BattleBots and watching military remote controlled drones and robots, so much stuff, so little time/money. My mind is always open to new input.

Where did you get that short stool at? I looked on your link above, but did not see a short "plain" stool.

Your BSR looks awsome! Love the fairing on the front!

Thunderbolt51
January 2nd, 2007, 12:42 PM
K. There are 24" stools listed with the 30" stools, with or without the chrome ribbed seat ring, with or without a seat back and with one or two rings in 24" size. Color choices and vinyls (metallic like Zodiac and other finishes). My color is called Pumpkin. The color chart on here sucks, doesn't do justice to the beauty of the actual colors. This first link has the best selection I've seen, I bought mine from bar-stools-barstools. My stool came with a seatback that I may yet install;

after finishing my first bsr I'm now fired up to do another one (with wife's encouragement) somewhat different, already have the color and style of seat picked out (I think, but subject to change, lol), going handlebars/hand controls this time and wheelie bars, need engine (possibly), brakes, wheels, converter/clutch. Just wondering how crazy I want to go. Thinking about using an extra Pro Stock pulling engine that I have, a Kohler K341 (was 16hp now around 45hp) on Methanol, a 94C Comet converter, biggest Burris go kart slicks- 11.x8.10x6 on rear, front brakes seperate from rears so I can lock the fronts for burnouts - may use windshield water reservoir and pump running to nozzles in front of rear tires for burnouts, uuuhhhhuuhh, maybe it'd even make a good drifter but have to keep the center of gravity down. Or even considering 10" rims instead of 6's, still lookin'. There are several interesting Diner bar stool designs that can be used just to be different, also themes ala OCC, like a Coca Cola seat and matching Coke cooler chest trailer. Anyway still dreamin' something up,,, this is fun.

Yo Tbolt, Man all that parts talking and H.P. talking done broke me out in a cold sweat! I aquired a set of Racing Kart front brakes and I am going to use them on the next Racer that I build for myself...just for the burnout ability!!!What wheel base are you thinking? All that H.P. maybe you better think ejector Seat and a big KILL switch. Sound like you have a plan!:lush: :lush: :lush: Snakester

Thunderbolt51
January 2nd, 2007, 09:37 PM
Snakester, ejector seat,,, eh ??? That's what I'm concerned about, NOT staying on the seat, lol. I may go with a shorter wheelbase or maybe more dragsterish, not sure yet, want to mock it up first, then go from there. the engine sounds wild already, also have a milder lesser powered Kohler, was 14hp, now around 28hp or so but more inclined to run the alky engine, runs much cooler, SMELLS much better, sounds real ratty too and gets the heart pounding. Haven't even gotten the 6hp Animal started yet and already thinkin' of a moon launch with another,,, YEOW,,, LOL . Yes on the kill switch, I'll use a snowmobile lanyard/switch. All of my "plans" evolve as I progress and see how it shapes up, usually go thru several transitions, wish I was like Chip Foose who can draw it from a picture in his mind and then build in amazing detail. Fantastic talent there, funny, many of Boyd Coddington's former employees now work for Chip, himself a former Boyd man. I'm always striving for "the look".

Thank You. I've been thinking that the fronts are too wide and may go to the 4.5 or 5.5 width tire and rims instead (I often change things/combinations around a couple times before I actually use them,, lol). Or I may just leave it alone and use the skinnys and fats on my next BSR (already have most of the parts, going to handle bar steering/controls instead though).

Thank You, sorry, but I'm only building pullers now, don't have the time as I have too many irons in the fire already. However you can buy my orange bsr $1950. a lot less than I have into it, everything brand new premium parts, never even been started yet, comes with a matching seat back. 585/594-2477 located in Rochester, NY.
