Does anyone know if the backspacing is the same between the polished and machined Douglas rims? I need to order 2- 6x6 and 2- 8.25x6 rims but APS only has 3 rims available in the polished finish, so I was thinking about ordering the machined finish. TIA!!

Hey Chris, I have used both and the backspacing is different on those 2 wheels. The Machined 8.25 BS is 3.00",,,The Polished 8.25 BS is 3.5". The 6x6 BS is the same. I checked these measurements off of wheels that I have in my garage, I thought the BS was the same , but it is not! I have been using the Van-k wheels for a couple of years now and I really like them ! Hope this helps. :cool_dude: Snakester

Thanks for the info!! I'm ordering most of my parts today, and the last items are rims/ tires. I'll look into the Van-K wheels... Now I need to figure out either slick or treaded tires, not really sure of any advantages to either since I won't be "competing". I'm building off the Classic Cruiser plans, with some possible changes. Once I get all my parts in, I'll start construction.

Chris , A buddy and I just purchased a lot of go kart parts , including wheels and tires . We haven't had any time to go through them as of yet . Our plan is to try to do it next Thursday or Friday. If you can wait , maybe we can save you some $$$$'S. This guy closed his shop after 25 yrs. and we bought all of his inventory. Most everything is new or almost new. Let me know!!! Snakester:cheers:

Since your so close to Chesapeake, I'll wait on ordering the wheels/ tires until you can get the inventory done. Just so you know what I'm looking at thru APS, it would be about $315 for 4 Van-K wheels and 4- Maxxis slicks, or $380 for 4- Douglas rims and 4 Burris grooved tires BEFORE shipping. But I have an e-mail out to them asking for a shipping quote. Right now I'm undecided on type of tire...

Hey Chris,
From what I have read in in the forum, the Bank rims are very difficult to seat on the bead. If you are planning on doing it yourself, you might want to look into the Douglas rims.

That is a point to consider. I was going to use a local ATV or MC shop if I couldn't do it. How are other folks seating their tires? What is different between the Van-K and Douglas rims?

From what I was reading, the VanK rims have a small lip you need to get the bead to either seat on or over.. Not sure exactly, but the Douglas rims do not have that.
The difference I would say is not much. Both are good rims I am sure.

Hey Chris, The Van-K wheels do have a ring to get the tire edge over. I mount a couple sets every week...You can do it easily yourself. You can just push the wheel through the tire ( we use WD40 or STP oil treatment on the tire) Then I drop the mounted tire/wheel into a 5 gallon bucket and inflate. Try it ...it is easy. Gentlemen:
If you are having problems with mounting tires on one-piece rims, the following links are very helpful.

Hey moto, Those tires and wheels are like new, they have less than 3 miles on them. I put them on a BSR that I built for a friend's Dad and the tires he wanted were back ordered so I used these so he could take his Racer to a local car show. I just purchased 1/2 interest in 4 pickup truck loads of go kart parts...Wheels, tires , chassis parts , hubs , sprockets...Most of it is new or almost new . We are going to inventory this stuff , Thursday/Friday...I am sure I will have alot of tires and wheels to sell. When I get it together I will let you know. I am asking $315.00 for the wheels and tires posted above. Thanks, and have a Happy and safe New Year!!!
