That's a good price for that engine. Only thing I do not like about that engine is that I had to remove the gas tank to fit it under the stool. I like the Honda look-a-likes because they seem to be more compact and the whole engine will fit under the stool.

nice little engine. good price too.

say is this engine good?
http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=6970&productId=301&R=301

i see alot of them on service trucks on air compressers. and they are old and beat up too and still run strong. im thinking about that one if i cant get a used engine. or something close to it.

sorry to hijack the thread.

that is a good engine but i beleive that that engine does not have a manual throttle it is kind of like a mower just a turtle and a rabbit ajustment.

andit isTWO HUNDRED DOLLARSMORE than the one on my link if it was me i would go through the trouble of taking the frickin' gas tank off.

It's not a big deal to change the throttle to move without resistance and add a return spring. On my Briggs the resistance is from a washer, either remove the washer or loosen the bolt holding it on and you're set. It has provisions for adding a spring so that's easy too.

I picked up one of these because there's a ton of hop up parts available and some folks are making 12hp with them on the F200 karting circuit. Unfortunately the design makes it difficult to fit under a barstool, the carb sticks out the side where it might hit a leg and the exhaust sticks out the top/back where it hits the rung. I'm probably going to pull the gas tank and fabricate a cover for the top of the engine, an exhaust, and an intake. I'll post pics in a few weeks when I've got enough parts to decide how I'm gonna do this.

I'm using this stool. The legs are ~17" apart (OD), I think that's about average for most of what's available.

Stoolpigon,

I like that Briggs engine. I think on my next build I am going to use one of thoes. I don't like having to put my gastank on the back of the stool.

Jake,

I think there is a knock-off of that Honda engine for cheap. I knowone ofthe members has posted a pic of his BSR with the knock-off engine. Might be the way to go.

Someone else just posted the carb sticks out the side where a stool leg might be, so that can be a fab problem.

I like the link to the Briggs that was posted, nice compact design and the price is right.

id bet with that engine could peel out on demand:dude: if i could get my hands on a twin piston engine i would for sure build something to put it in.

might go raid friends junkyard. he owns a lawnmower shop and has a engine/lawnmower boneyard out back. im the kind of person that willmess with it till it runs, or blows up:P

More Speed,

I think the price tag is a bit high for a BSR engine. I also think along the same line you do as for power and speed.

If you want to do something extreme, why don't you look on eBay for a used snowmobile engine and get the tork-a-verter to go with itand slap that on a stool. You will save over a $1000 dollars and have braggin rights in your state.

You will have more speed that you could ever want. When I was a kid, I did the same thing to a gokat. I used an old one cylnder snowmobile engine and put the tork-a-verter on the back. All I did was spin the tires and go crazy. I was never able to open it up full speed though, just not enough space or guts, but it was a blast. :D

yea i know its a crazy idea, but hey i can dream:D i like messing with slow things to make them faster....ie: john deere rideing lawn mower. was going to make my extra lawn tractor for speed only but then i seen the bar stools so i decided to build that than monkey with my tractor...yet:P one day it will break 5mph:dude:

Bean,

That Briggs isn't compact and you'll still have to relocate the gas tank. The carb comes off the side where it might get in the way of one of the stool's legs, the exhaust comes off the top where it gets in the way of the stool's rung. And the cylinder is laid back more than on a powersport so a TAV2 doesn't fit well. I'll try to post some pics in a few weeks when I start getting stuff together.

I'm going to run this motor anyway, I'll get bored with the stool in a year or two and rebuild the motor to run F200. Or I'll build it with F200 style parts and have a crazy fast barstool. Plus it's $50 cheaper than a 6.5 hp powersport.

Ive used the Briggs 5.5 intek and loved it. I wasnt able to use the breather I wanted due to the stool leg, and the bulky exaust, well it came off too. I was very impressed with the power of this motor. I will be using more of these motors in the future. We have them for 195.00 in the shop now! Glenn:cool:

Got any pics of your intake/exhaust? I'm expecially interested in the intake, the exhaust is fairly easy.

Still trying to shrink a few pics so they will attach....but...I bought a Honda 90cc clone on e-bay last winter. Electric start, 4 speed, auto clutch, electronic ignition and it fits very well under any size stool. I have added a wet fogger nitrous system that really works...I have not seen this engine brand lately but have seen a similar clone with manual clutch...I see a thrill in that application also..more If anyone interested

The intake was simple. I just pulled the stock breather off and mounted our tecumshe breather adapter to it. The stool leg does get in the way. I took a foam prefilter and covered just used the clamp from a filter to hold it on! If you still need pics I can get them on Monday. Glenn

Thanks,

Is it easy to add nitrous, to 5 hp and up engines?

RUBICON
October 7th, 2005, 09:37 AM
It is easy to add nitrous...You can do e-bay for used parts and then after finding the hard way why they were for sale in the first place...replace one by one with NEW internet stuff...The cheap NEW prices will run $250 plus or minus....like everything you look at the one or two items that impress you and base the cost on that..but when the fuel pump, hoses, switches, battery?, jets, bottle clamp, etc are added the cost grows....There is very little data on small engine nitrous systems...so ..every little bit of practical information is a help....When I was having the second valve installed on my newest bottle ( Nitrous Express ) A guy from the West coast ( NE ) called me and his advice agreed with where I had gotten to by trial and error...The critical issues are too lean mixtures and can the engine design stand the additional cylinder pressures?....good luck

We can sell you an unwelded kit for $140. It also comes with the following:

1. Motor Plate
2. Front Spindle Brackets
3. Rear Bearing Hangers
3. Steering Kit with Pitman Arm.
4. My Plans that explain in detail on how to assemble the frame kit correctly.

Shipping will cost you from $35 - $59 depending on where you are located in the U.S.

We have sold quite a few of the frame kits and everyone has been happy with them.

Just FYI
I just bought one of those Honda copies, from Ebay for my project.
It is a Sterling, 6.5hp, electric start & alternator to recharge the batt.
198.00 to my door. Opened it up, added gas and oil, fired right up, sounds great. I expect it should do good.

Sounds like a great deal but the shipping is way to high. Some of the sellers on ebay sell the item cheep and raise the shipping because ebay doesn't charge a % of the shipping. Shipping sould be around 20.00 at the most 30.00
but no more. I did a quick search and found this one with free shipping. http://cgi.ebay.com/6-5-HP-Gas-Engine-Go-Cart-Motor-log-splitter-lawn_W0QQitemZ7738149017QQcategoryZ82248QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Hey more speed, on the tractor thing, it's easy. Take the large pully off of the trans and put a small one on it, tripples the speed. Did it to mine when I first got it together (out of 3 lawnmowers) Wifes was in the back yard doing donuts with it. Couldn't mow with it though, even in 1st at low throttle it was to fast to mow so I had to change it back to the larger pully.

Red and black, I don't think the white and black would look as good. Hey, are you also going to do small stickers, small enough to put on th bsr, like 1" wide.

How would you like to have a 4 speed...auto clutch...fits under any stool...90cc honda clone....forget torque converters..have all the torque you need in all 4 gears.....e-bay has the Lifan engines...Chinese Honda clone....mine has nitrous.....just a thought...and for $50 more...think about it!
